ABOUT THE MONEY NOOK

About

The idea behind The Money Nook is simple

It is a safe space to get financially educated.

It is a quiet corner of the Internet, where you can escape the noise of everyday life and do something for you.  Build the knowledge you need to feel in control of your finances.

And trust me, I get it.  You’re probably feeling:

I created The Money Nook for you

I wanted a learning space, where you can show up, ask questions, and get the answers that you need to make important financial decisions in your life.

No more “figuring it out later”, the information you need to start changing your circumstances is here.

You can carry on drifting by and waiting for your money to magically improve, or you can take the action today and MAKE IT HAPPEN.

You can be that parent on the playground that looks like they’ve got it together.  Or that person in the office that actually understands their pension.  Or the friend that made their dreams come true.  Why not you?

About

The Money Nook is here to give you the knowledge and resources, as well as the support and accountability to make it happen.

This is what you get:

The Beginnings

I am Kent girl at heart, growing up in the Medway Towns. My parents were hard workers.  They balanced their time and money to provide the best for me and my sister.

The schools in the area were fantastic and I left with more GCSEs and A-levels than I could shake a stick at, but I had no idea where I wanted to go with my career.

Therefore, I choose to study mathematics at the University of East Anglia with the idea that I might head into the finance sector on graduating.

Then the 2008/9 stock market crash hit and suddenly the graduate programmes in the finance sector had all but disappeared.

Instead I opted to train as a secondary school mathematics teacher.  This became my profession for the next 10 years.

the changes

During this time, I gained a Masters in Advanced Educational Practice and qualified as a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator.

But found that after having two children, the occupation no longer worked for me in regards to both my career ambitions and the lifestyle I aspired to live.

That is when I started Looking After Your Pennies.  A website where I share articles around making and saving money, alongside some of my favourite eco-friendly tips.

After a year of working part-time as a teacher and  part- time running my business, my husband and I quit our jobs to take our family on a trip around the world.

We spent a year vigorously saving towards this goal, before setting off in September 2019.

the journey

Together we travelled through 12 countries and five continents before a global pandemic forced us home with a bump.

At this point, we had no jobs (and no where to live), so decided to scale up my financial education business.

I trained as a financial coach so that I could offer more to those that I was communicating with on my social channels.

Futhermore, I launched a podcast, a YouTube channel, a TikTok account, and produced multiple ebooks, workshops, and courses.

A year on, my passion for financial education persists.  It is my mission to support as many people as possible to get the knowledge they need to manage their money with confidence.

That’s why  I am committed to The Money Nook community and the potential it has to create financial freedom in your life.
